Geek Post: Uncharted

Happy Friday!

While you read this post, I’ll be in Sydney, getting ready to see Eminem in concert tonight. I’ve been waiting for this for about 8 years so it’s impossible to describe how excited I am. In the words of Chandler from Friends, ‘I’m so excited, I may vomit.’ Gross, but true.

Aaaaanyway. Today’s geek post is dedicated to the Playstation 3 [sorry Xbox fans, this one's PS3 exclusive] game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and it’s sequel, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

To get you interested, here’s the trailer for Among Thieves. It’s a lot better than the first game trailer, it reminds me of a movie trailer, actually!

The Uncharted series revolve around Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter. The games revolve around finding different mythical treasures. In the first game, it’s all about finding El Dorado, and the second is about the Cintamani Stone that Marco Polo was searching for.

The games are very Indiana Jones-esque [although I don't like Indiana Jones] lots of jumping, tons of climbing and plenty of puzzles thrown in, all while you’re constantly shooting the enemy and trying to stay alive.

The game has fabulous environments, which, when combined with the brilliant soundtrack, really immerse you. To me, playing Uncharted [1 and 2 respectively] is just like watching a really great movie.

Interestingly enough, an Uncharted movie is actually in the works, although Mark Wahlberg has been cast to star as Drake, when it clearly, clearly, should have been Nathan Fillion. I mean..hello?

*sigh* Well, never mind. Here’s hoping people come to their senses and put Fillion in the movie instead of Wahlberg.

Anyway. The Uncharted games are full of action, adventure and puzzles. They’re never dull and there’s always something to think about.
